Ollie Currill kept alive Oxfordshire’s dream of winning the National Counties Trophy for the first time with a stunning innings that clinched a dramatic three wickets win against Suffolk off the last ball of their quarter-final at Banbury. 

Suffolk appeared to be on course to avenge their defeat in last season’s National Counties Championship when Oxfordshire slipped to 194 for seven in the 44th over chasing 282 for victory.

NATIONAL COUNTIES CRICKET Oxfordshire, Berkshire win

Oxfordshire made it two wins in a week in an impressive start to their defence of the National Counties Championship as they beat Herefordshire by nine wickets in their Western Division One match at Thame. 

It was all over before lunch on the final day after off-spinner Max Mannering took his second five wicket haul of the season to help dismiss Herefordshire for 210 in their second innings.

DEVON and Shropshire race to NCCA Championship wins

NCCA-Logo MasterShropshire and Devon opened their accounts in Western Division Two of the National Counties Championship with two-day victories over Wales NC and Cornwall respectively. 

Shropshire were the day’s first winners, easing home by seven wickets at Oswestry with four sessions to spare while Devon were ten wickets winners in the cross-Tamar match at Sandford.

NCCA-Logo MasterWickets tumbled at Oswestry and Barrow on the opening day of the second round of National Counties Championship matches. 

There were 24 wickets at Oswestry where Wales NC fought back after they had lost their last five first innings wickets for just seven runs in 20 balls against Shropshire in Western Division Two.

NATIONAL COUNTIES Wadlan's best for Wales

Oxfordshire launched their defence of the National Counties Championship title with a four wickets win over Cheshire in their Western Division One opener at Alderley Edge. 

A maiden Championship century from acting-captain Harry Smith and a brisk maiden half-century from Prav Chahal saw Oxfordshire home after they had wobbled at 162 for six with the experienced slow left-armer David Wainwright taking half of the wickets.

Defending champions Oxfordshire still have work to do on the final day of their Western Division One match against Cheshire at Alderley Edge today (1100 start). 

Oxfordshire lost their last five first innings wickets for 44 against the wily slow left-arm of David Wainwright four which meant that they trailed by 57 on first innings.
