Premier East leaders Ivybridge Town had to settle for a point in their South West Peninsula League draw at Newton Abbot Spurs last night.

It was a tough encounter played at a frenetic pace and was a match in which both managers possibly felt their side should have taken all three points. On balance, however, the draw was probably a fair result.

Saltash United beat Ashton & Backwell United 4-1 to narrow the gap on unbeaten leaders Bridgwater United to eight points with a game in hand.

Having joined teammate Callum O’Brien in celebrating 200 appearances prior to kick off, Saltash skipper Dave Barker marked the occasion with a goal in either half to help propel the Ashes to victory.
