COUNTIES CRICKET Today's championship team news

Defending champions Berkshire today begin their quest to win the Championship for the sixth time in seven seasons against promoted Devon at the Falkland club in Newbury in Western Division One. 

Imran Malik, a Championship regular last season, makes his first appearance of the season for Berkshire and Billy Mead his three-day debut having impressed in the Trophy quarter-final victory over Dorset last weekend.

COUNTIES CRICKET Trophy quarter-finals team news

Holders Berkshire have called up batter Billy Mead for his debut in today’s National Counties Trophy quarter-final against Dorset at Wimborne. 

Mead comes into the 12-strong squad to replace former England Under-19 opener Savin Perera whose form for Berkshire – he averages 40.6 in the Trophy and 41.1 in three-day cricket – and his club, Attenborough, have secured him a two-week trial with Nottinghamshire.

COUNTIES CRICKET Quarter-final deciders today

The two remaining places in this season’s National Counties Trophy quarter-finals and the four teams who will have home advantage in them will be decided today (from 1100). 

The quarter-final places still up for grabs are in Group Three, where Cheshire and Shropshire meet in a straight shoot-out at Toft to decide who will join Suffolk in the last eight, and Group Two where either Cornwall or Berkshire will progress with Hertfordshire.

Sussex seamer Brad Currie is in line to make his first appearance of the season for Dorset in today’s National Counties Trophy Group Four match against Wales NC at Panteg (1100). 

Currie is a product of Dorset’s youth system who was signed by Sussex on an initial short-term contract midway through last season.

NCCA-Logo MasterNational Counties Trophy holders Berkshire return to Slough for the first time in 21 years with Cornwall the visitors to Upton Court Road, which will also be a home Trophy venue for Buckinghamshire in two weeks’ time. 

Berkshire are without Tom Scriven, who is on LV=County Championship duty with Leicestershire but batter Savin Perera and pace bowler Mungo Russell return from injury and Josh Lincoln is also included in a 13-man squad.
